Copy House Uluwatu: Best Sunset on Karang Boma Cliff, Bali

If you are in Uluwatu and looking for a place to watch the sunset, Copy House on Karang Boma Cliff is where you want to be. Not a restaurant, not a beach club. Just a small wooden hut on the edge of a 60-meter cliff, drinks available, and the clearest view over the Indian Ocean.
Together with Batu Jaran, this is my favourite sunset spot in Bali after living here for many years. This post is not sponsored by Copy House. I just love this place and I would love it when more people could find it.
A quick note on the name: this spot was originally called The Copy Cart, a small mobile coffee truck on the cliff. It has since been rebranded to Copy House, and the cart has been replaced by a permanent wooden hut that blends into the landscape far better than anything else built on a Bali cliff. You can now also pin the location directly, which was not always straightforward before.

What is Copy House on Karang Boma Cliff?
The south of Bali has some of the most dramatic cliff scenery in Asia, and Karang Boma is one of the lesser-known ones. Not far from Uluwatu Temple, a local entrepreneur built something simple and smart: a small wooden structure on the cliff edge where you can order a drink and watch the sun go down.
What makes Copy House work is what it does not do. No big infrastructure, no menu of forty items, no DJ set at 120 decibels. A permanent wooden hut that fits the environment, a few benches, open grass, and the ocean in front of you. The hut itself is well-built and blends into the nature in a way that actually adds to greenery, instead of ruining the surroundings.
They offer a variety of drinks like coffees, iced and hot chocolate, beers, sodas and coconuts for a maximum of around 50.000 IDR, €2,50 or $3 USD. The coffees made from freshly grounded beans as you may expect in Bali these days.
You can bring your own drinks and a blanket too. The area around it is just cliff, grass, some benches and sky.
How to get to Copy House, Uluwatu?
Copy House is located on Karang Boma Cliff near Uluwatu. You can now pin the location directly on Google Maps.
You need your own transport to get there. A scooter or car both work. The road leading to the cliff is narrow, narrower than most roads in the area. You don’t want to meet another car, and parking is limited. It’s definetly easier to reach by bike.
The parking is next to Copy House and the cliff is right beside it. Any footwear will work, and it’s accessible for the whole family.
Arrive at least an hour before sunset to get a good spot, and to see the light change in the most beauitful way. The area is not large, and once people settle in they do not move.
If you are heading back without your own transport, walk back to the main road before calling a Grab or Gojek. Signal near the cliff is not always existent. There are usually drivers waiting around Uluwatu Temple nearby, so it shouldn’t take you too long to get a driver.
The Sunset View
The sun sets directly over the ocean from this cliff. Nothing blocks the horizon. On a clear evening the sky goes through deep orange, red, and sometimes purple right after it drops below the water. You can see Uluwatu Temple in the distance from certain angles as well.
Sunset in Bali happens consistently between 6 and 6:30 PM year round, with slight variation by season. Arrive by 5 PM at the latest if you want to settle in properly.
And to be clear about the cliff: there is a fence. Respect it. The drop is real and the fence is there for a reason.
Photography tips for Copy House, Uluwatu
I tend to pick my spots based on photography options, and you won’t be disappointed here. These are my recommendations for those looking for the perfect shot.
Drone Photography
This is one of the better drone locations in the Uluwatu area. Nobody will bother you here. The challenge is finding a flat surface to take off and land, so be ready to hand-launch or hand-catch if needed. Set your return-to-home altitude high enough to clear the cliff walls, as the terrain can interfere with signal at lower altitudes. From here you can frame the cliff, the hut, the ocean below, and Uluwatu Temple in the background. Keep in mind that you can’t fly over the Uluwatu temple as it’s a restricted area.
Get creative with your camera
Copy House itself is tucked further back on the cliff than the old cart was, but it’s still photogenic, and people love posing in front of it. Once the sun sets, the string lights come on, giving your photos a warm glow instead of just darkness.
The cliff itself is a solid spot for picnic-style content. The grass field is spacious, so grab a coconut and shoot from ground level for that classic tropical-picnic shot. Face the golden hour light for a lit-up portrait, or shoot with it behind you for a glowing, majestic effect.
More into nature and landscape? For Uluwatu Temple shots from here, bring a telephoto lens. It’s too far for a wide angle to do anything useful with.
Practical checklist before you go to Copy House, Uluwatu
- When to arrive: by 5 PM at the latest to enjoy the transition from daylight to night.
- Payment: Cash, card or QRIS, card is preferred
- Jacket: the cliff gets breezy after sunset and you will have a dark ride back, so bring a jacket.
- Toilet: not available, go before you arrive.
- Drone: don’t forget!
- Accessibility: short flat walk from parking, fine for most people including older family members
- Getting there: scooter or car, road is narrow on the final stretch, pin the location before you go as mobile reception isn’t the best.
Final Thoughts
Copy House is one of those places that works because it does not try too hard. A well-built wooden hut on a cliff edge, drinks available, nothing else in the way between you and one of the best sunsets in Bali. The rebrand from Copy Cart to Copy House and the move to a permanent structure has made it better, not worse. It fits the landscape and it is now easier to find and park at than before.

The Copy Cart is now Copy House an antique Indonesia wooden house sitting on the cliff edge. It’s the best spot in Bali to watch the sunset. Nothing over done just you nature and the sun dipping below the ocean!
